Walking Among Corpses

What a horrible thought. But the reality is that that is what Christians do every day.

1 Timothy 5:6: But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

Perhaps it would motivate us to share the good news with the unbelievers around us if we imagined the word DEAD in big bold letters on their foreheads. I have no idea where I first heard that idea.

Rather than fret about the evil things that the dead people do to us and to one another we should have pity on them. They are helpless to do anything spiritual just as a dead person is helpless to do anything physical. They are not absorbing spiritual nourishment. They are not digesting the Bible. They are not getting spiritual exercise. They can*t move spiritually. They are worse than paralyzed. They have no spiritual muscles. They can*t inhale or exhale the fruit of the Spirit.

1 John 3:14: We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

We forget or perhaps we never understood what happened when Jesus saved us. We were made alive in a new and wonderful way. We are given the same kind of life that is in Jesus. Eternal life.

1 John 5:11-12: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Eternal life carries us along just as certainly while we live in these natural bodies as it will when we receive our spiritual bodies.

1 Corinthians 15:44: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Galatians 2:20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Death produces nothing. Life produces life. When we share the gospel with others we are sharing LIFE with them.

We can often discern which individuals are spiritually dead and need Jesus. They will be the ones who have major differences with the Bible and don*t live by Biblical principles. They are not only spiritually dead, they are destroying their physical lives.

2 Peter 3:16a, c: As also in all his epistles, . . . in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

As we witness to unbelievers it will sometimes be obvious that they are wrestling with God*s truth rather than receiving it. The word unstable is worth considering. It is a strange and wonderful truth that there is a more than rock-solid stability in spiritual life that is not in physical life. Physical life is no match for spiritual life. We who are saved certainly do not need to fear those who are not.

James 1:21: Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

When people fully receive the Word of God they receive Jesus AND eternal life.
